Business to Business. The ability for two businesses to conduct business online.

B2C
Business to Consumer

B2G
Business to Government

Bid
A tender, proposal or quotation submitted in response to a solicitation from buying organization.

CAD/CAM
The term CAD/CAM implies that an engineer can use the computer system (includes not only the computer, but also any software and devices that are necessary to make the computer function) both for designing a product and for controlling the machines that construct the parts.

Category
Defines the industrial category/classification of the industry service sector

Closing Matches
This is a listing of bid opportunities that will expire in the next seven days.

Cookies
Small packages of information that store and track your work preferences, patterns, and internet addresses (URL). These allow us to track preferences you have when visiting our site, such as serving up the appropriate language version of SourceCAN when you return to the site.

Data Provider
Data Provider specifies one contact within a company designated to update and or alter the company profile. Assigned a username and password that enables the data provider to register with SourceCAN.

Digital Marketplace
Digital Marketplace: an online space where buyers and sellers come together to find each other and do business together.

Duns & Bradstreet Numbers
Used as a tool for identifying, organizing and consolidating information about businesses. Companies worldwide use it to link information about suppliers, customers and trading partners, providing them a more complete picture of risks and opportunities in their business relationships.

E- marketplace
An on line business center where goods and services and transactions transpire.

Electronic Commerce
Is the integration of electronic mail, Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), and similar techniques into a comprehensive, electronic-based system encompassing business functions such as procurement, payment, supply management, transportation and facility operations. Features of EDI: 1) paper-less, 2) automation interpretation and re-keying of data, 3) standard format, 4) non-proprietary.

Encryption
A process of transforming clear text (data in its original form) into cipher text (encryption output of a cryptographic algorithm) for security or privacy. (Security Transaction Set 815).

FSC
Federal Supply Code. Categorization of certain industry sectors designated by the Federal Government.

GE
General Electric. One of the partners affiliated with SourceCAN.

GSIN
Goods and Service Identification Number. A commodity coding system used by the Government of Canada. This coding system allows for more accurate search results when searching for opportunity or award notices.

Keywords
Specific descriptive terms that will facilitate a desirable match.

Leads Manager
A portfolio that allows you to save bid opportunities of interest.

Match
Refers to a bid opportunity that coincides with the criteria your company was in search of.

Match Criteria
Is the specifications inserted in your company profile that possible bid opportunities are matched against.

Match Filter
The specification outlined in your company profile of the opportunities you do not want matched with.

NSN
National Stock Numbers (NSN) are numbers used by the Government and business to identify items. The NSN is a 13-digit number that is assigned based on the end use of the item.

Password
A secret word that enables users access to their SourceCAN accounts.

PDF
( Portable Document Format) A file created by Adobe Acrobat Writer, and is readable by Adobe Acrobat Reader. Files in this format are un-editable. The latest version of the Acrobat Reader can be downloaded from the Adobe Acrobat site, http://www.adobe.com free of charge.

Post
To 'post" refers to advertising a bid opportunity your company has available.

Portal
Refers to a gateway of information and resources.

Procurement
Indicates the possession of bid opportunities.

Product Service Codes

Request for proposal

RFQ
Request for quotations

SIC
The Canadian Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) is a system for identifying and grouping together businesses that perform similar economic activities.

Tender feed system:
An online process where buyers aggregate their tenders and publish them in an electronic format that SourceCAN then accepts, manipulates and matches against each individual member's profile.
Types of Feeds on SourceCAN:
Commerce Business Daily Feed: (CBD) lists notices of proposed government procurement actions, contract awards, sales of government property, and other procurement information in the United States. This feed is available in English only.
Trade Opportunity Program feed: (TOP) is a multi-sector collection of procurement opportunities assembled daily by the US Government. This feed is available in English only.
Agriculture Opportunities feed: is a collection of procurement opportunities relating to the agriculture sector, assembled the US Department of Agriculture. This feed is available in English only.
Business to Business: (B2B) is the group of procurement opportunities posted by SourceCAN members. This feed is reproduced in the language of publication.

Trading Partner
The sending and/or receiving party involved in the exchange of EDI transmission.

UPC
The Universal Product Code (UPC) is a commercial bar code system that many commercial product manufacturers use on product labels.

URL
Universal Resource locator, also referred to as web site address.

Username
A security name consisting of letters and or numbers, issued to individual companies by SourceCAN.

Vetted
A 3-5 business day validation process of company specific information.

Virtual Booth
An interactive booth, within the virtual tradeshow, that allows individual companies to demonstrate, and display their own products and services.

Virtual Tradeshow
A showcase of products and services online. Allowing for interactive advertising and transactions.
